Espen Bjervig is leaving FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2011

2009-09-09
(September 9th, 2009) Espen Bjervig is leaving his position as Director of Sports at the World Ski Championships 2011, due to a very exciting offer from his previous employer. “We are sad to lose Espen. The sporting director’s role is important to us and he has performed it well. Fortunately there are some good candidates ready to replace Espen and we are already in dialogue with them,” says Åsne Havnelid, CEO of WSC 2011.

“This has been a difficult decision for me. Being Director of Sports of a World Ski Championships in your own country is a dream job. And the Norwegian world championships team are very capable and professional people. But I now have a totally unique career opportunity with Acta Asset Management that I just couldn’t say no to,” says Bjervig.

The World Ski Championships at Holmenkollen will be held from 24 February to 6 March 2011. Before this, a trial WSC (a World Cup event) will be held at Holmenkollen on 13 and 14 March 2010. It is the job of the WSC’s Director of Sports to focus on the competitors and ensure that the optimum sporting conditions are created.
“We still have plenty of time to make plans. We also have competent event directors and sporting assistants in position. Espen’s departure is very sad, but it is no drama,” says Havnelid.
