In order for people to have a good spectator experience, the proper framework must be in place. It concerns handling large crowds in a good and safe manner, says Aass. He lists important issues such as calculations of crowd flows, entrance gate capacity, spectator circulation and spectator information.

Aass is currently studying Crowd and Safety Management at Buckinghamshire Chilterns University College in England. No Norwegians have previously completed this two-year education. He and two other Norwegians are the first to do so now.

17 years’ practical experience
“It is incredibly inspiring to have the opportunity to practice one’s subject at a project as large as the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships. The World Ski Championships is the largest spectator event since the 1994 Olympics.

Aass has broad practical experience. He has worked for 17 years on security at festivals, concerts and sporting events. Amongst them are Slottsfjellfestivalen, VG-lista at the Oslo City Hall square, the Øya Festival, Norwegian Wood, The Storås Festival, Rally Norway, the Holmenkollen Ski Festival and the Artic Challenge.
