Three major, Norwegian companies join the “team” of the World Ski Championships

(Oslo, December 18 2009) Statoil will be the presenting sponsor of FIS Nordic World Ski Championship 2011, while Aker Solutions and DnB NOR will be two of our eight main sponsors. "We are both glad and proud of the fact that three of the most important companies in Norway have decided to partner with us," says Åsne Havnelid, CEO of WSC 2011.

“It is very important to that the Norwegian business is joining us in the preparations for the people’s festival that will take place in Norway. Together we will be able to create a national celebration”, says Åsne Havnelid.

“The FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in 2011 will be the biggest event in Norway in decades. The World Ski Championships in 1966, 1982 and 1997 have left an ever lasting impression in the Norwegian Ski History. For most Norwegians, skiing means something special. Hence, it is of great importance to us that Norwegian businesses want to be involved in this project. Statoil, Aker Solutions and DnB NOR are showing great social responsibility”, says Havnelid.
Statoil are helping kids and youngsters
Statoil’s engagement as the presenting sponsor for WSC 2011 is part of their talent project established together with the Norwegian Ski Federation, “Team Morgensdagens helter” (Heroes of the Future Team).
“Nothing is more inspiring for a young talented athlete than world championships in your own country. Experiencing the idols on our very own ski tracks or in the jumping hill will support the development of ski talents. Our intention is also to motivate kids and youngsters to experience the joys of winter and ski sports. Therefore, we will join the organization of “Barnas VM” (The world championships for kids) through which an exciting number of activities for kids and youngsters will be taking place in the competition venue before and during the World Ski Championships”, says Vice President Brand Management, Kjetil Undhjem in Statoil.
According to Havnelid it is quite unique to have a Norwegian sponsor as a main sponsor of such a big, international event. In total, there are nine international main sponsor packages. The goal is that three of the sponsors should be Norwegian.
“The FIS Nordic World Ski Championships represents a unique opportunity for Norwegian business to promote themselves and strengthen their position,” says Havnelid.
Important to DnB NOR and Aker Solutions
“DnB Nor have had a close cooperation with ski sports for many years, and we will of course also make ourselves visible during the World Championships in our own national sport in Norway. The WSC will be one of our most important activities in 2011, and we will use this event to connect even closer to the associations ski sport represents” says Trond Bentestuen, Director of Marketing and Communications of DnB NOR.
Aker Solutions is also happy to contribute to the success of the event.
“The attitude of the top athletes including their continued focus on improving their own performance, represents a source of inspiration to us in Aker Solutions.
We are glad to be able to contribute to make WSC in Oslo a great event and an arena for strong and exciting performances,” says Jannik Lindbæk, Senior Vice President Corporate Communications of Aker Solutions .
EBU is very pleased
The European Broadcasting Union in its capacity as the owner of the marketing rights is pleased to learn that the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2011 have already generated widespread interest amongst the Norwegian sports enthusiasts and within the Norwegian business circle.
“Statoil, Aker Solutions and DnB NOR joining the group of international sponsors strongly contributes to the success of the Championships, not only with regard to the financial support but also the enthusiasm that these companies have demonstrated and the will to be involved in various aspects of the motivation plan for this important event in Norway”, says Ingolfur Hannesson, Head of Winter & Indoor Sports, European Broadcasting Union.
The FIS Nordic World Ski Championships take place February 24 to March 6 2011 in the worlds most modern ski arena for Nordic disciplines. The City of Oslo has through their investments in Holmenkollen ensured that kids, youngsters, top athletes and the general public have a year-round facility, and WSC 2011 will together with their collaborating partners make use of the facilities already in FIS Nordic World Cup in March 2010.
